Opening Night Dance Party

Friday 12 September, 5-8pm

Learn African dance and be part of the Dance Party feature act with Afro legends Yacou Mbaye (Senegal) and Lucky Lartey (Ghana).

Loosen your hips at our outdoor party. DJ Flygirl Tee spins dance music tracks from around the world, with interactive pop up dancers, guest singers and EmCee’s from our multicultural communities and you!

FBi Radio legends come to Bankstown and keep the party going with their DJ, horns and drumming set. Dancefloor gems collected from all corners of the earth, special guests to be announced!

Worlds Collide in the Round

Saturday 13 September, 7-9.30pm

Step into a high-energy, interactive night where music, dance and culture collide, and the audience becomes part of the show.

‘GLOBAL COMMUNITY ALBUM IN THE ROUND’

Born in the heart of Western Sydney, Worlds Collide fuses seven cultures and diverse musical traditions into a bold, contemporary Australian sound. A genre-defying, high-energy celebration of unity, culture and innovation.

‘Worlds Collide in the Round’ is an interactive immersive experience where the audience is surrounded by a powerful lineup of artists weaving tradition into the NOW. 

Featuring:

Yulugi – A sonic dialogue across cultures and Country.
Featuring Aboriginal songman Gumaroy Newman, Robert Weatherall (yidaki/dance), 
Raph Hatz (yidaki), and composer Keyna Wilkins
Yacou Myabe and Lucky Lartey – African drumming and dance
Danny Telas – Columbian culture and grooves
Palestinian Music Ensemble – Evocative, soul-stirring music rooted in tradition and resistance

For a chance to perform in the Worlds Collide in the Round Concert

Be part of the festival!

Afro legends Yacou Mbaye (Senegal) and Lucky Lartey (Ghana) will show you some fun Djembe drumming patterns. Drop in for one song and create a squadron together to be part of the ‘Worlds Collide in the Round’ concert at 7pm. 

 

Multi-lingual freestyling and performance

Hip Hop freestyle legend Izzy and the RTB Crew will show off their skills and invite YOU to show off yours in ANY language.

Register for a spot to show the world your freestyling skills. One lucky newcomer will have the chance to perform in the ‘Worlds Collide in the Round’ concert that same night!
 

Ritual

Sunday 14 September, 1-3pm

Ceremony and concert that ponders our connection to Country and the universe

To clear the air and our spirits, join us for an Acknowledgement of Country and smoking ceremony led by an Aboriginal Elder.

The ceremony and interactive discussion is about connecting and understanding Country as a way forward for multicultural Australia.

Experience Ritual, a powerful new anthology celebrating Muslim-Australian identities through poetry in concert.

Ritual in concert features live readings from four poets, woven in and out of music by Persian music ensemble, Avaye Rood, led by composer Behzad Ansari.

Featuring poets:

Munira Tabassum Ahmed has had her work published in Pleiades, Frontier Poetry, Best of Australian Poems, Liminal and Cordite. She was a 2022 Kat Muscat Fellow.

Mualla Aydoğan is a Turkish-Australian writer from south-west Sydney. She has a Bachelor of Communication from Western Sydney University and a Master of Arts in Writing and Literature from Deakin University.

Ferdous Bahar is a Bengali-Australian woman from Western Sydney. She obtained a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney. Ferdous’ creative and critical works have been published in SBS Voices and kindling & sage magazine.

Meyrnah Khodr is a Lebanese-Australian writer from Bankstown. She completed a Bachelor of Education at Western Sydney University. Meyrnah has been published in SBS Voices.

Adrian Mouhajer is a queer non-binary Lebanese-Australian writer, fighter and editor from Lakemba. They are currently working on their debut essay and poetry collection as the recipient of a 2024 Affirm Press Mentorship.

Rania Omar is a lived experience advocate for mental health, disability and domestic violence. She has performed extensively at Bankstown Poetry Slam and recently published an audio story in Stories From Here (Outloud, 2024).

Yahya Tresor Djomani-Ousmane is in his fourth year at the University of Wollongong, pursuing a double degree in Science and Commerce. The dualities of Yahya’s African-Australian upbringing and Islamic faith have shaped his artistic practice.
