Shaun Parker & Co at Bankstown Arts Centre

Artists in residence 22 - 26 June 2026

As part of our performing arts program, we are excited to host Shaun Parker & Company as our artists in residence in 22-26 June. 

Shaun Parker & Company is a nationally and internationally renowned dance company. Designing dance works that have enormous audience appeal, they have toured to 25 countries globally and 68 towns across Australia, with dance-theatre works having been viewed by more than 500,000+ people! SP&Co has created 21 original works to date, and is set to add three new works to that catalogue this year.  Shaun Parker & Company is a dance company for everyone. Alongside the development of their new work they will be hosting fun daily dance workshops for the public.

Opportunities for Dancers

The First Nations Paid Dancer Intern will experience working in a professional contemporary dance company environment, undertake daily company classes, workshops and receive one-on-one feedback and guidance by internationally renowned Choreographer and Artistic Director, Shaun Parker.

This opportunity is proudly supported by the Canterbury-Bankstown Council and First Nations dancers based in the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA (Darug) are encouraged to apply. The First Nations Paid Dancer Intern will be selected in consultation with Shaun Parker & Company’s First Nations Cultural Advisor to ensure cultural safety.

PAYMENT: The First Nations Dance Intern shall be paid as per LPA guidelines for Company Dancer Trainee/Intern level @ $1,052.50 per week, plus 12% superannuation, and Annual Leave provision.

Selected applicants for the Secondment & Professional Development Program will experience working in a professional contemporary dance company environment, undertake daily company classes and receive one-on-one feedback and guidance by internationally renowned Choreographer and Artistic Director, Shaun Parker.

This opportunity is proudly supported by the Canterbury-Bankstown Council and is specifically designed for dancers who are based in the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA (Darug). This secondment program is free of charge, and is invitation only, so please ensure that you submit a strong application for selection.

There is the possibility to work on a ‘flexible’ timetable, depending on each applicants bespoke prior engagements, or work commitments.

As part of Shaun Parker & Company's residency at Bankstown Arts Centre, company dancer Samuel Beazley will lead free daily dance workshops for the public, with an extra special class Wednesday night. Explore a taste of their latest work in development through the surreal styling of SP&Co's custom-built pom-poms in a unique combination of free styles, armography, polyrhythms, waving, popping and contemporary dance moves.

FOR ALL BODIES WITH AND WITHOUT DANCE EXPERIENCE

The showcase will present several scenes and ideas developed during our week-long residency at the Bankstown Arts Centre, featuring our leading dancers Joel Fenton and Samuel Beazley, with Artistic Director Shaun Parker providing commentary on the creative process!  Come peak behind the curtains to see what goes into the development of a professional dance work for the stage!
