"I would change like the streets and stuff like that. I would do planning with my friends so the future will change it."

The Bankstown Communities for Children Committee wanted to know what children think life will be like in Canterbury-Bankstown and decided the best way to find out was to ask them!

On display in our Incubate Gallery over the month of May are a series of artworks that have been created by children aged 4 to 15 years of age. They were asked to build a Bankstown where they want to live, using recycled materials and their imagination. The art workshops, facilitated by artist Melissa Wheeler, were part of the Children’s Voices Out Loud project which is all about listening to children.

The children involved all live in the Canterbury-Bankstown area, but many identified as being from many other places, countries, and communities.

The participants said Canterbury-Bankstown would be a better place if we could change...

"How many cars there are and have more natural things."

We could “put some more seconds on the crossing lights.”

We should "Just protect the environment more ” and people feel like they belong if there’s "more multiculturalness."

This project was a partnership between the Smith Family, BYDS, BCRG, Polyglot Theatre and Bankstown Arts Centre.
